"Batman Begins" isn't as widely adored as the Spider-Man trilogy, nor as flashy as the more recent Iron Man, but it's at least as good as--or arguably/probably better than--those (more popular) super hero flicks. It's a dark story with a very non-linear beginning that will grab your attention as you piece together young Bruce's life towards his inevitable change into Batman. It's ooding, well written, and well directed with obvious respect and love of the source material. Fans of the Batman comics will see that a lot of this is based on Frank Miller's Year One, but I feel that this movie goes beyond what the comic established, which is a huge thing in itself. Not only does it establish Batman's dark roots, the movie also doesn't feel as if it were made TO show where Batman got his start, which was the basic function of "Year One." This movie gives the Batman movie franchise a reboot while also delivering a great story about how two people view Gotham. Batman wants to save it, the villain of the movie wants to destroy it. Seeing these two clash throughout the movie, as well as seeing Batman develop and deal with both his new secret identity as well as his life as Bruce Wayne is fascinating. Not to keep comparing this movie to the rest of the superhero genre, but what this does have in common with the previously mentioned "Spider-Man" and "Iron Man" films is that, like those, it achieves a nice balance between action, character moments, plot development, and the real tender moments that really make these movies more than stories about guys in capes. Batman is full of those, and has a consistent (and universal, really) theme of overcoming fear that plays out through the entire movie, coming to a climatic conclusion during the final scenes. In fact, the only bad thing I'll say about this movie is that the car chase scene went on way too long and there is a sort of recurring writing device where characters repeat lines characters said to them earlier in the movie. It worked perfectly when Batman repeated Rachel's "it's what you do" speech, but it happened many times in the movie after and before that, and the other instances just felt like a bit too much. But if that's all I'm nit-picking about in a film that clocks in at two hours and fifteen minutes, I guess they're doing a great, great job. From Christian Bale's stoic, thoughtful performance as Batman to the in-your-face battle scenes, "Batman Begins" is probably one of the best superhero movies out there. It's certainly a contender for my favorite. 8/10
First of all every time a superhero movie is gonna come out marvel,dc,or any other, kids are always the first in line to go see it but just cause this movie is rated pg-13 doesn't mean it's for kids not like they can't see it but you know.I mean really this batman(which is the best)is how he really is.Batman has always been a dark character who has anger, wants revenge, whether is to kill or ing them to justice and truly this is not a character children want to look up to.He's like the punisher only that he doesn't use guns but cool gadgets and they have the same intesions. This movie is waaay different from any of the other batman films("and george clooney as batman,ARE YOU KIDDING ME!")it takes it more serious and is just a movie for grown ups(not like there's blood, nudity,or anything else)but really once you look at this batman film you will see it really MUCH MORE MATURE,THE WHOLE STORY AND EVERYTHING,BALE RULES!

I've been waiting for this movie to come out onto Blu-ray for months.. Amazing movie, great transfer - worth every dollar. The bonus IMAX preview of the Dark knight was pure eye candy. Note: The region info for this product on Amazon is incorrect. Most of WB's blu-rays are region free. I take my hat off to them for that move.
The movie is excellent, the High-Def transfer is great, and while the extras aren't new, getting to watch them in a picture-and-picture commentary mode is very nice, presentation-wise. However, the collectibles are lame promotional items for the new movie "The Dark Knight". The packaging says a "16-page comic book prologue" is included, but this is simply a poor adaptation of the first six minutes of new "The Dark Knight" movie. But, the packaging also says there is a "32-page booklet", but this, again, is another adaptation of the SAME six minutes of the new movie, only with excerpts from the screenplay, side-by-side with photos. And the only NEW feature (as compared to the SD DVD release) on the Disc itself is the SAME SIX MINUTES OF THE DARK KNIGHT from the comic and the booklet, admittedly in gorgeous 1080p and full 16x9 aspect ratio. A 32-page booklet would have been better used to show stills from the behind-the-scenes of the FIRST Batman movie, or showing promotional posters, or re-printing the original marketing info, like I've seen on many other DVDs. And a comic book is useless if it is an adaptation of the movie, since the movie will always be a better experience. Better to reprint comics that inspired the movies, like the ones that were re-printed for the SD DVD edition of "Batman Begins". Also, you get a movie pass for the new Batman film, but it is only worth $7.50! That's not even half the cost of a non-matinee ticket! And I bought the special edition thinking the cost of the movie ticket would reduce the added cost of the Limited Edition versus the standard Blu-Ray, but with these paltry collectibles, it was not worth the extra money. My honest opinion is that you should buy the other Blu-Ray edition, with just the movie, and save your money.Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman a masked crusader who uses his strength intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.Format: BLU-RAY DISC Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/HEROES UPC: 085391115212 Manufacturer No: 111521iBatman Beginsi discards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. That's good news, because the series, which had gotten off to a rousing start under Tim Burton, had gradually dissolved into self-parody by 1997's iBatman Robini. As the title implies, iBatman Beginsi tells the story anew, when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) flees Western civilization following the murder of his parents. He is taken in by a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) and urged to become a ninja in the League of Shadows, but he instead returns to his native Gotham City resolved to end the mob rule that is strangling it. But are there forces even more sinister at hand? p Co-written by the team of David S. Goyer (a veteran comic book writer) and director Christopher Nolan iMementoi, iBatman Beginsi is a welcome return to the grim and gritty version of the Dark Knight, owing a great debt to the graphic novels that preceded it. It doesn't have the razzle dazzle, or the mass appeal, of iSpider-Man 2i (though the Batmobile is cool), and retelling the origin means it starts slowly, like most "first" superhero movies. But it's certainly the best Bat-film since Burton's original, and one of the best superhero movies of its time. Bale cuts a good figure as Batman, intense and dangerous but with some of the lightheartedness Michael Keaton ought to the character. Michael Caine provides much of the film's humor as the family butler, Alfred, and as the love interest, Katie Holmes iDawson's Creeki is surprisingly believable in her first adult role. Also featuring Gary Oldman as the young police officer Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as a Q-like gadgets expert, and Cillian Murphy as the vile Jonathan Crane. i--David Horiuchii p p span class="h1"strongBatman at Amazon.comstrongspan table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="4" cellpadding="4" tr align="center" valign="top" class="tiny" td width="33%" img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007XG43W.01.TZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" All iBatmani DVDstd td width="33%" img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/156389341X.01.TZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" iBatman Beginsi 101: A Comic Book Primertd td width="33%" img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009A40ES.01.TZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" Where Have I Seen Christian Bale?td tr tr align="center" valign="top" class="tiny" td width="33%" img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1401206905.01.TZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" All iBatmani Comics and Graphic Novelstd td width="33%" img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000306A2O.01.TZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" iBatmani Toystd td width="33%" img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009IW88A.01.TZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" iBatman Beginsi Soundtracktd tr table p p span class="h1"strongStills from IBatman BeginsI (click for larger imagesstrongspan table border="0" cellpadding="4" width="100%" cellspacing="4"p p tr align="center" valign="top" tdimg border="0" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/video/stills/batman3-small.jpg" tdp p tdimg border="0" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/video/stills/batman1-small.jpg" tdp tdimg border="0" src=" http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/video/stills/batman2-small.jpg" td tr table p

【Refreshing and thrilling】

【Uninspired, Greed-motivated Junk.】

【Good if you want to see Batman beat people up.】

【half and half】

【Beautifully Made】

Some of the stories are hit or miss as some say but it's great to see an anime version of Batman and other peoples vision of the Dark Knight. I hope Warner plans a second volume. I'd like to see what other Japanese animators can do with the characters. I loved the Killer Croc story. I don't think the disc is a rip off or trying to take fanboys money as some say. No one is being forced to buy these discs and you can always just rent them. I'm glad to have bought the Blu-ray and encourage the studio to ing us more innovative releases such as this one.
This has got to be one of the most obvious "let's rip off fan boys and suckers" ploys of recent memory. Slapped together, apparently, in a rush to get it to market before the movie hits theaters. The writing is bad. Really bad and really obvious. Amazing Goyer let his name remain on this (he has one segment), but he's had his klunkers before. The stories ALL lack for inspiration or invention. The whole time, you're yearning for some snap, some smarts. It never comes. Most of the animation is even worse. The last piece felt a little more evenly constructed and satisfying, only because the segments preceding that one were so jaw-droppingly bad. The animation character design in a couple of pieces is so utterly lacking in any kind of grace or artistry, it's all the more evident that this thing was farmed out with no central artistic oversight, no vision, in an attempt to squeeze more money out of the BATMAN franchise....as if it were just an after-thought from the marketing department, handed off to Chris Nolan's assistant (who sadly will be stuck with the creative blame for this dreck for years to come) to keep it "in the family". It's really a shame, as Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT promises to be terrific, deep, a hallmark of modern blockbusters. To even associate "Gotham Knight" with THAT movie is just a crime. Don't waste your money. This has nothing of the inventiveness or intrigue or artistic integrity of "The Animatrix." This is sheer junk spewed out to suck your money quick. 14-year old fanboys will eat it up. But if you've got any kind of standard for entertainment, this isn't even worth a rental. Four episodes of the old Bruce Timm BATMAN animated series are on the bonus features. Just BUY that series, and leave this to the junk heap of avaricious studio hacks.
I had very high hopes for this dvd, but wasn't very impressed. The new Batman seems to capture realism. which you wont get from these stories, most of it was very fake. The fact that there were 6 stories animated by 6 different people, and none of them really linking to each other made it hard to finish. Each one of the stories are good on its own, but its weird to see a young long haired Bruce Wayne then see and older wiser man on the next story. On its own, it is a pretty cool super hero animated show, but when i watch Dark Knight, I wont be able to idge Begins, Gotham knight, and Dark Knight like i did for Star Wars II, Clone Wars, and III. In a nutshell, If you love Anime, and love Batman, Buy it, but if your just wanting to see a Batman Begins 1.5 your out of luck.
Batman Gotham Knights is a hugh budget production with a well voiced cast with an innovative approach -- six stories with different writers and animators. This of course involves some hit or miss ideas. "Have I Got a Story For You" A pointless rewrite of a great Batman Animated Series episode called ("Legends Of the Dark Knight") This works half as well but is somewhat compensated with impressive background animation that gives the city a real sense of place. "Crossfire" Not a very crafty story that focuses on why we need Batman. Been done before in many alterations on Batman Animated Series and is very unconvincing. "Field Test" Another throw away with a pointless excursion into an idea that goes nowhere. Don't make Lucius Fox into a James Bond 'Q' "In Darkness Dwells" One of the best episodes examining Batman's battle with Killer Croc. Excellent dramatic tension and a fine action story as we see the interaction between Batman and Gordon. Why couldn't this have been the starting story! "Working Through Pain" A nice episode examining Bruce's past with a great ending that leaves you thinking rather than just wrapping up the episode. "DeadShot" Another great entry with excellent animation and a great battle scene. I was spellbound. All in all this is a major disappointment. It just shows how bad script writing can ruin a great idea. Again the first three should never have been made. The last three though make up for it but creates the valid argument that this is a rental vs. a keeper.
Combining some of the greatest writers in the business, Gotham Knight is a 6 story movie that focuses on how Bruce Wayne went from The Batman to The Dark Knight. Have I Got A Story For You: Starts off the movie with a group of kids telling stories of their encounters of the Batman. They are ranging from him being a shadow creature that can disappear and re-appear at will, to simply a giant bat. This isn't the best start to the movie but it gives us an idea of how Batman is perceived by those in the Gotham world. Crossfire: Is a story based around two cops, Detectives Ramirez Allen. Allen Ramirez are dropping a criminal off at an insane asylum and on the journey we're subjected to the hatred that the man has for the Dark Knight. He doesn't like vigilantes but after being caught in a crossfire between the Russians the Italians, Allen's mind is changed when the Batman shows up. Field Test: Is a vision of a young Batman trying out the new gadgets created by Lucius Fox, but after an accident caused as a result of one of the gadgets, Wayne decides towards other means of protection. In Darkness Dwells: Written by David Goyer, writer of Blade and co-writer of Batman Begins. The Dark Knight finds himself in the sewers of Gotham City where he's forced to take on Killer Croc and once again fight the Scarecrow. Working Through Pain: This shows us the interesting past of Bruce and how he was taught the skill of handling pain. Deadshot: The title speaks for itself as in this finale we're shown the real reason why Batman hates guns as he's forced to take on the might of the man that never misses. I went into this film with a bit of skepticism as I'm not usually a fan of the anime style of animation. However, the short stories featured in this feature length animation are astounding and shed some light on the Batman character. The whole anime style is not for everyone, and I must say before I saw this I hated the style myself. After seeing this I come to realise that this style of animation has a way of showing real emotion through clever imagery. Be warned though, to those parents of children who are fans of the Batman series and are thinking of buying this for their kids, it has its moments of graphic violence and colourful use of language. Overall this is a great little time waster and something that you can watch and be pleasantly entertained by.Acclaimed screenwriters including David Goyer (Batman Begins) Josh Olson (A History of Violence) and Alan Burnett (Batman The Animated Series) join forces with revered animation filmmakers on six spellbinding chapters chronicling Batman?s transition from novice crimefighter to Dark Knight. These globe-spanning adventures pit Batman against the fearsome Scarecrow the freakish Killer Croc and the unerring marksman Deadshot. Using an arsenal of high-tech gadgetry from Wayne Industries Batman?s ethical boundaries exist only where he chooses to place them leaving some fearful of his power. The sharp storytelling complemented by stylish art from some of the world?s most visionary animators masterfully depicts the blurred lines of Batman as man myth and legend.Running Time: 75 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY UPC: 883929011155 Manufacturer No: 1000037297

【Great sequel to the first National Treasure!!】

【As good as the first, with it's own twists】

【National Treasure Blu Ray review.】

【Sequel? not so great】

【Customer Service】

National Treasure 2 - Book of Secrets (Widescreen I loved this movie. I thought it was much better than the first one. Lots of little surprises and makes you wonder if any of this stuff is actually for real.
The long and the short of it are: I expected an attempt at recreating the sense of adventure and Patriotism of the first film. What I got was a film that is excellent on it's own merits, with the same wonderful core group of actors. Bravo!! I live in the armpit of America, euphamistically called the "Heartland". So, I have to wait for everything to come out on video. I'm NOT paying the Satellite people over $5 to see something I can buy. Although I usually rent them from Netflix first, because I NEVER buy sight unseen. I was happily pleased with the film, and that technology allows that a DVD may be watched 100 times without degrading the quality and forcing us to buy a replacement DVD. The Disney Pukes are/have figured a way to make our DVDs degrade with time. They will burn in Hell for that.
Being blu-ray the quality is very good. I always found the first National Treasure fun to watch and got a few laughs in. As for the second one, I could hardly sit through the thing. It was like watching a really bad version of the first one. It stinks and I don't like it!
Should of rented this DVD instead of buying it first. Not as great as the 1st movie.
The movie is what it is. If you liked the 1st National Treasure, you will like this one. I am kind of a Nicholas Cage fan since Raising AZ. Amazon continues to deliver good value and service. Kills me to walk thru Fry's Electronics and/or Best buy and see what others are paying for the same movies. A LOT MORE. The free shipping on orders $25 is worth waiting for but most times the stuff arrives sooner than advertised. I am also a big Amazon fan.Join Nicolas Cage on a heart-pounding adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat in a race to find the Lost City of Gold. Grounded in history imbued with myth and mystery Disney's NATIONAL TREASURE 2: BOOK OF SECRETS takes you on a globe-trotting quest full of adrenaline-pumping twists and turns -- all leading to the final clue in a mysterious and highly guarded book containing centuries of secrets. But there's only one way to find it -- Ben Gates must kidnap the President. Packed with fast-paced action and crackling humor NATIONAL TREASURE 2: BOOK OF SECRETS is a movie your entire family will want to rediscover again and again.System Requirements:Running Time: 124 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/THRILLERS Rating: PG UPC: 786936735390 Manufacturer No: 05439300Less engrossing than its 2004 predecessor INational TreasureI, Jon Turteltaub’s busy sequel INational Treasure: Book of SecretsI is nevertheless a colorful and witty adventure, another race against overwhelming odds for the answer to a historical riddle. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), the treasure hunter who feverishly sought, in the first film, the whereabouts of a war chest hidden by America’s forefathers, is now charged with protecting family honor. When a rival (Ed Harris) offers alleged proof that Gates’ ancestor, Thomas Gates, was not a Civil War-era hero but a participant in the assassination of A aham Lincoln, Ben and his father (Jon Voight) and crew (Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger) hopscotch through Paris, London, Washington DC, and South Dakota to gather evidence refuting the claim. The film is most fun when the hunt, as in INational TreasureI, squeezes Ben into such impossible situations as examining twin desks in the queen’s chambers in Buckingham Palace and the White House’s Oval Office, or kidnapping an American president (Bruce Greenwood) for a few minutes of frank talk. Helen Mirren, the previous year's Oscar winner for Best Actress, wisely joins the cast of a likely hit film as Ben’s archaeologist mother, long-estranged from Voight’s character but as feisty as the rest of the family. Returning director Turteltaub takes excellent advantage of his colorful backdrops in European capitals and the always-eerie Mount Rushmore, and oversees some wildly imaginative sets for this dramedy’s feverish third act in an audacious and completely unexpected, legendary setting.

Overall this is a great little time waster and something that you can watch and be pleasantly entertained by.Acclaimed screenwriters including David Goyer (Batman Begins) Josh Olson (A History of Violence) and Alan Burnett (Batman The Animated Series) join forces with revered animation filmmakers on six spellbinding chapters chronicling Batman s transition from novice crimefighter to Dark Knight. These globe-spanning adventures pit Batman against the fearsome Scarecrow the freakish Killer Croc and the unerring marksman Deadshot. Using an arsenal of high-tech gadgetry from Wayne Industries Batman s ethical boundaries exist only where he chooses to place them leaving some fearful of his power. The sharp storytelling complemented by stylish art from some of the world s most visionary animators masterfully depicts the blurred lines of Batman as man myth and legend.Format: BLU-RAY DISC Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: PG-13 UPC: 085391179511 Manufacturer No: 117951

【Even when not at its absolute best, it's terrific】

【The best TV show EVER!!!】

【the last season was on point】

【I miss you Bubbles!】

【The WORST season of The Wire, by far...】

Wire fans who went into the season expecting something as special as Season Four -- probably the greatest single season of television ever produced -- will be disappointed. Others will be maddened by the curious farce of the homeless subplot, not recognizing that its farcical nature is largely deliberate. Still others, at this point having been suffused in background information on David Simon and his grudge against the Baltimore Sun, will read the few overly didactic bits on the state of the news media as the triumph over personal blinders over the disciplined storytelling that marked The Wire's first four seasons. There may be some truth to all of these things. Yet this season, like all of them, cannot be considered anything but a triumph. The writers don't sell out. They continue to engage complex issues and deliver often heartwrenching and, yes, realistic conclusions to the narrative arcs spun so well over the past half decade. The media is the theme this year, but where the season shines most is where past seasons have -- with the drug game and, most of all, with the stories of the boys we got to meet in Season Four. We see them to varying degrees in Season Five, but I cannot eathe a complaint about how any of them was ultimately treated/used.
I don't normally take the time to write a review but "the Wire" has to be the best TV show ever written. The realism is disturbing and the characters are so human and ultimately, so tragic. As a middle age woman who grew up within a city similar to the one portrayed in the show, I saw and grew up with so many of the characters portrayed in the neighborhoods. The show acurately demonstrated how good kids can go "bad" and how their lives can be changed for the better once they have someone who cares enter their lives. My heart goes out to Dookie and Michael. What an ending!!!
season 5 came together and put the Politcs, police department, newsroom and the control of turf in the streets all together as one. the wire was one of the few shows over the past decade where I had to watch it everynight. what made the Wire so compelling was that all the actors, writers and directing were all held accountable and they all ought the goods. this is One of the shows that I didn't want to see end at all. the court case had me rolling as well. One of the most Compelling and complete shows over the past decade period.this show stays on the real.
Actually, I miss every character on this show. Yes, I'm exaggerating - but not much. Read other reviews for an in-depth analysis on why this is probably the best show ever on TV, but what I really enjoyed about it is the character development. Many shows let you know a lot about two or three main characters, but this show does so for about 20+. I remember reading a major blog where the guy says his friend would like to revoke the television privileges of anyone who doesn't watch 'The Wire'. That's a bit radical but I sincerely think it's a borderline tragedy such this great show was seen - nay heard about - by so few. Rent the first disc of season one and you'll be hooked.
And that is saying a lot, considering season two was a miraculously bad sophomore slump for such a great show. Season five has so many flaws, it would be hard to list them all without giving away most of the season. This season focused on the media side of things, and yet the media characters were extremely one-dimensional and had no depth. Clark Johnson was decent, but since his days on Homicide are over, he should stick to directing. The entire season sprinkles characters from the fourth season ("Bunny" Colvin, Randy, Namond, Prez, Dennis "Cutty" Wise, etc.) into two or three minute cameos, which is just pathetic. If this season is so bad that it has to harken back to past characters, there is a huge issue with the quality of what is being produced. Much of this season is just a string of silly cliches and it really lacks any true grit that the previous seasons were so acclaimed for. There are momentary flashes of illiance, but not as many as you would hope. If you own the first four seasons, by all means buy this to finish off your collection. If you are a random person looking to dive into this series, watch seasons one, three, or four. In the projects. On the docks. In City Hall. In the schools. And now in the media. The places and faces have changed but the game remains the same. Times are tough for the detail. Mayor Carcetti has slashed the departments budget to the bone. Police are operating without overtime some without cars and radios. Angered McNulty is off the rails again and headed down a dangerous path of deception and lies that will ally him with an unscrupulous reporter. The drug trade still rules the corners all you have to do is read between the lines.Running Time: 630 min.System Requirements:Running Time: 630 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES SEQUELS UPC: 883929015368 Manufacturer No: 1000038240A barroom toast to Det. Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West), a one-man good cop/bad cop, offered in IThe WireI's final episode could very well serve as this series' epitaph: "When you were good, you were the best we had." Season five bears witness to this. The 10 riveting, wrenching episodes focus on yet another beleaguered Baltimore institution, IThe Baltimore SunI daily newspaper, whose staff, much like the police, is forced to do more with less. One editor (Clark Johnson) struggles to maintain the paper's journalistic standards in the face of declining ad revenues, employee buyouts and bureau closures. An ambitious reporter (Tom McCarthy) undermines him by taking a page out of the Stephen Glass/Jayson Blair playbook, manufacturing sensational quotes, and eventually, whole stories, while bean-counter management encourages its rising star and keeps its eye on the (Pulitzer) prize. Meanwhile, on the streets, the year-long investigation of rising drug lord Marlo Sansfield (Jamie Hector) and the 22 bodies found in "the vacants" has been discontinued and police morale is at an all-time low (the money promised to the department has been diverted to the schools). McNulty manufactures a serial killer case that will have far-reaching repercussions in the mayor's office, where Tommy Carcetti (Aidan Gillen) is mounting a run for governor a mere two years into his term. "I wonder what it would be like to work at a real police station," McNulty rages at one point. IThe WireI, as ever, is all about real. It's a gritty and unflinching look at life in one of roughest districts of a " oke-ass city." There is street justice for some characters, and street injustice for others. Some meet sad, sudden, or shocking ends that defy TV convention. Referring to Marlo, McNulty declares early on, "He does not get to win; we get to win." The hard-earned victories are mostly small, or come with a price. Not that IThe WireI does not offer glimmers of hope. Bubbles (Andre Royo) struggles to maintain his so iety (Steve Earle portrays the leader of his 12-step program and also does the theme song honors this season), and the final episode features a cameo by Jim True-Frost as the once overwhelmed teacher, "Prez," who now seems to have the hang of the job. The ratings-strapped and criminally Emmy-snubbed IThe WireI has always been a critic's darling with a passionate fan base. To the show's credit, it did not make itself more accessible in its final season (consequently, its send-off did not receive near the fanfare of IThe SopranosI or ISex and the CityI. That should not dissuade newcomers to the show. It is heavy lifting, and if you're just joining IThe WireI, a visit to the show's official website for orientation is recommended. But buy it, watch it, and be patient. It's so worth it. From the masterful storytelling to the peerless ensemble, it just doesn't get any better than IThe WireI. But that's not exactly news. 【Not the best film!!】

By just watching the trailer this movie looked silly to begin with, but I got ahold of a free copy thought maybe if I just turn off my ain for a couple hours I might find some enjoyment in the film. Well, unfortunately just turning off my ain wasn't enough for this stupid waste of film. You'd almost have to be comatose to get through the film before saying to yourself "wait a minute, did that just happen". The movie is just flat out too stupid for words. It's a true insult to anyone's intelligence watching for those that can actually find some kind, any kind of enjoyment, you might think about investing in a good drool bib a nice set of crayons. How does this Roland Emmerich guy keep getting these huge budgets to make these putridly stupid ainless films. Okay I enjoyed ID4, but how long ago was that movie made? It's like after doing 'The Day After Tomorrow' he went "Wow, they actually bought that; why even bother with a story, they'll buy anything!!!" Do these big hot shot movie executives really think that we as Americans are really this stupid? Maybe we are, maybe we deserve this kind of garbage on our silver screens maybe that's how we put bUSH in the White House for eight excruciatingly long years. Oh, and can we please officially put the kibosh on Miss Camilla "Bushy Brow" Belle's career now? It's quite obvious after the woman's choice of movies that not only can the woman not act, but she's completely clueless as well. Let's just not even talk about unga bunga lead guy Steve Strait. In the end, you'd probably get more enjoyment be better off receiving a concussion that sitting through this film, completely stupid, complete waste of 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back. F This Movie!!!
Why does this movie suck so much? Because it is stupid as hell. And boring and very unoriginal. I'm kinda tired of people saying that a movie like this is just for fun, blah, blah, blah. Of coarse it is. My idea of fun can include -and very often does- the improbable and fantastic. It's when it is done in ways that don't make any sense and aren't interesting or original that I think a movie sucks and deserves 1 star on Amazon. (Actually I don't care as much about stuff making a whole lot of sense if it's interesting and entertaining and smart. Ex. the plot of Hellboy 2) When you call the movie 10,000 B.C., I don't know, I just sort of assume that part of the idea is to have a movie set on Earth about 10,000 years ago about prehistoric people. That sounds interesting except they gave the middle finger to not only good, exciting story telling but trying to portray what the world 10,000 years ago was actually like. If you want to do a fantasy world call it Middle Earth or something. The movie is screwy in multiple ways: right next to a frozen mountain range ice age environment lies a lush tropical jungle which borders a vast desert; the silly accents and tribes and a completely fictional civilization that is part rip off of ancient Egypt and the Persian Empire as depicted in "300"; an absurd plot -it's like a dull highchool kid read some Joseph Campbell and this is his first effort at script writing (maybe not too much worse than George Lucas); bad dialogue; bad editing; etc. I can chill and let somethings slide if it all overall works. It doesn't. Sadly, most Americans would probably consider it more or less accurate and a pretty good movie.. The general public has a very low standard for what counts as a good movie. I found the flawed but fascinating "Quest for Fire" to be very well done and better worth your time if you feel like watching a story about cavemen. They didn't even have a huge budget and CG animals! And Ron Perlman plays a caveman. He required no makeup for the part.
I was lucky I watched this movie after a friend had bought it, I did not buy it. Don't waste your money it isn't worth buying. The special effects are excellent but that is where it ends. The plot is absolutely stupid and make no sense.
This movie was, on the whole, quite boring. The plot was mundane, to say the least.
This film was quite slow, not to much happening. Some great scenes and effects but not what i had hoped for..The filmmaker who launched a UFO invasion in Independence Day and unleashed the forces of global warming in The Day After Tomorrow now unveils a new day of adventure a time when mammoths shake the earth and mystical spirits shape human fates. Roland Emmerich directs 10000 BC the eye-filling tale of the first hero. That hero is young hunter D?Leh (Steven Strait) set out on a bold trek to rescue his kidnapped beloved (Camilla Belle) and fulfill his prophetic destiny. He?ll face an awesome saber-toothed tiger. Cross uncharted realms. Form an army. And uncover an advanced but corrupt Lost Civilization. There he will lead a fight for liberation ? and become the champion of the time when legend began.System Requirements:Running Time: 109 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/HEROES Rating: PG-13 UPC: 085391139683 Manufacturer No: 1000023986To anyone who has ever yearned to see woolly mammoths in full stampede across the Alps, i10,000 BCi can be heartily recommended. There's also a flock of "terror birds"--lethal ostriches on steroids--in a steaming jungle only a splice away from the heroes' snow-dusted alpine habitat. And lo, somewhere in the vastness of the North African desert lies a city whose slave inhabitants alternately teem like the crowds in iQuo Vadisi during the burning of Rome and trudge in hieratically menacing formations like the workers in iMetropolisI. That's pretty much it for the cool stuff. Setting movies in prehistoric times is dicey. Apart from the "Dawn of Man" sequence in i2001: A Space Odysseyi, only iQuest for Firei makes the grade, and its creators had the good sense to limit the dialogue to grunts and moans. i10,000 BCi boasts a quasi-biblical narrator (Omar Sharif) and characters who speak in formed, albeit uninteresting, sentences--including a New Age–y "I understand your pain." But let no one say the storytelling isn't primitive. The narrator speaks of "the legend of the child with the blue eyes" and bingo, here's the kid now. When, grown up to be Camilla Belle, she's carried off by "four-legged demons"--guys on horseback to you--the neighbor boy (Steven Strait) who hankers to make myth with her leads a rescue mission into the great unknown world beyond their mountaintop. His name is D'Leh, which is iHeldi, the German for "knight," spelled backward. So yes, there is some hidden meaning after all. p i10,000 BCi is the latest triumph of the ersatz from writer-director Roland Emmerich. Like iStargateI (1994), iIndependence Dayi (1996), and iThe Day After Tomorrowi (2004) before it, it's shamelessly cobbled together out of every movie Emmerich can remember to pilfer from (though to be fair, the section in pre-ancient Egypt harks back to his own iStargatei. Emmerich's saving grace is that his films' cheesiness is so flagrant, his narratives so geared for instant gratification, he can seem like a kid simultaneously improvising and acting out a story in his backyard: "P'tend there's this alien ... p'tend maybe he came from Atlantis or something...." Just don't p'tend it has anything to do with real moviemaking. i--Richard T. Jamesoni

【Worthless Collectibles】

He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman a masked crusader who uses his strength intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.Format: BLU-RAY DISC Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/HEROES UPC: 883929017690 Manufacturer No: 100003841iBatman Beginsi discards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. 【Hellboy Movie Review 】

【In the absence of light, darkness prevails】

【"Lets Go Fight Some Monsters"】

【Hellboy for Earth】

Comic book fans have high I.Q.'s. It's true, so sue me. But Hollywood insists that comic books are for stupid people. Sure. It makes sense. I mean--look at 'em! They're comic books, for cripes sake! So, along comes a guy who isn't from around here and doesn't know about the "comic books are dumb" rule. Guillermo del Toro makes a comic book movie as if comic books mattered. It ain't perfect, but it's a lot closer to a real comic book experience than any of the other "big time" movies that started out as comics. My friend, if you want to understand the soul of the comic book, you should watch Hellboy. Then you will understand. Maybe. Actually, the movie is a teensy bit hard to follow. There are script problems in the movie, that became story problems, that became editing problems. They don't really get resolved, but one of the many, many cool "extra features" in the DVD set is one featuring the Master himself, explaining that he's not making a logical proof in a math class, he's making a movie. If it's a little hard to follow sometimes-- tough. I'm a fan of this film (and the sequel) and so I forgive it's failings. The good parts outweigh the bad--and if you watch the extras included in this edition, you'll see just how the "mistakes" were made. Lack of time (film can't be too long--theaters gotta be able to fit it into the schedule, you see). So things had to be cut (or never shot). That hurt--because the stuff that was cut was living tissue. The original theatrical release lacked a couple of scenes that helped to make things clearer--but they only helped to make it less confusing. It's still confusing, but, hey, it's not a logic test, right? Okay. Then there is the blood. Or lack of it. No blood or gore, this is a PG-17 picture. So, here's a film about people being eaten alive by monsters and--no blood. Yeah, it's a little goofy. It also directly causes some major weirdness because Rasputin is supposed to be BLIND but they cut that part out. Seriously. Listen to del Toro's commentary. But the plot is still a puzzle, even with some restored scenes in this "director's cut," and you just have to scratch your head to and ask "Why are they doing that? Why are they going there? How do they know?" etc., etc. But I have a theory. It's confusing because they couldn't include the usual exculpatory scenes ("Oh yeah! That's why they went back to the old mill! ...and dumped the money in the pond!!") because the movie would have been too long. See? So they had to "rush" it along and just hope the audience would follow the story. There is just one problem with this theory of mine. One of the longest scenes is the "big fight" between Hellboy and the monster. This is a huge special-effects event and it's just what del Toro does best--but it's confusing because it interrupts the flow of the story. The huge fight is so long and so spectacular that by the time it ends you forgot what was going on, and, if you had actually begun to grasp the plot, you'll have lost it by the time the last massive chunk of concrete comes crashing down and the "big fight" ends. Seriously, when I'm watching this movie I actually hit the "next scene" button at the moment that the "big fight" is about to begin. The whole movie is easier to follow that way and the "big fight" proves nothing. Oh-- and by the way-- cutting the big fight shortens the movie so that, hey, wait a minute---that means that, if the "big fight" hadn't been shot at all, they could have made a movie that was 100% logical, and it would have been the right length! But so what? This is Guillermo del Toro film. Cut the big fight to make the story more logical? Guillermo would have to commit ritual suicide on Hollywood Boulevard. No-- a word spelled the same in English and in Spanish. No. Never cut the fight for the sake of logic! Viva del Toro! Viva Hellboy! Viva the gratuitous lengthy and expensive-looking fight scene with a cast of thousands! VIVA!
Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy implements countless impressive ideas, including seamless computer graphics fused with animatronics and puppeteers, ingenious character designs and fascinating monstrosities. But for all of its undeniable visual flair, the film weakens due to sore-thumb dialogue and a regimen of predictable plot devices; as well as too many unlikely conveniences and the ever-popular need for heroes and villains to strike a lengthy poster-perfect pose before and after every action sequence. During World War II, Rasputin (Karl Roden) aids the Nazis in opening up a portal to another world, which is a uptly shut when U.S. forces grenade the operation. Although Rasputin is destroyed, a tiny red creature is left behind on Earth to be raised by Professor Broom (John Hurt). Dubbed Hellboy, the demon soon grows into a powerful crime-fighter intent on keeping extra terrestrial baddies at bay. Hellboy (Ron Perlman) is not alone, and is joined by Abe Sapien (Doug Jones), an amphibious creature that possesses incredible knowledge. Elizabeth Sherman (Selma Blair) also has super powers, although her pyrokinetic firestarter abilities are much harder to control. Together the group works for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD), constantly and covertly cleaning up the messes left by alien life forms and resurrected enemies from the past. The action sequences are all fast-paced, expertly choreographed, and arrive just in time to speed up the story when things get too convoluted or unexplainable. Seamlessly blending computer animated models of Hellboy, Sammael, Abe Sapien and many others with practical effects, the film achieves a startlingly realistic look. Like James Cameron's Aliens, the various monsters have a rubbery, tangible appearance, slaver real slime and appear to be actors in costumes more often than not. And this is a good thing, because it peerlessly prevents visual annoyances like those found in most major fantasy films in which Spider-men effortlessly swing from concrete jungle rooftops and hulking green men float through vast canyons. A stepping stone to del Toro's next visual masterpiece (Pan's Labyrinth), Hellboy utilizes many unquestionably unique character designs and concepts. From Kroenen's hideously scarred visage (and his skill with bladed weapons, though not as cool as V from V For Vendetta), to Sammael's lumbering cartilaginous figure, to Abe Sapien's twitching webbed hands, the oddities speak wonders for both the makeup crew and original comic book creator Mike Mignola. Along with these bizarre concepts are idiosyncrasies and affecting personalities bestowed on every human and monster, which allows for more personable and relatable qualities from such inhuman concoctions as a giant crimson-skinned demon. The charisma of Hellboy (ample amounts of credit goes to Ron Perlman) and his wide array of emotions make the human liaison to the audience John Meyers (Rupert Evans) nearly obsolete. The set designs are also fascinating and numerous, from snowy graveyards to steaming sewers to a booby-trapped underground labyrinth. Hellboy deserves credit for its innovative approach to visuals in a comic book adaptation, but loses points for noticeably trite dialogue from many of the supporting characters. The plot is also disappointing with its convoluted legend and prophecy jargon and otherworldly nonsense which simply doesn't do justice to the awesome characters battling across the screen. The fun somehow eludes the ruddy Hellboy, despite all of the action, comedy, violence, destruction, mayhem, romance and special effects. - Mike Massie
While some good directors never quite "get it," it took Guillermo Del Toro only one misfire -- the icky, slow-paced "Blade 2" -- to get the whole comic-book adaptation thing right. In fact, just about everything is right with "Hellboy" -- Del Toro crafted an action blockbuster with a grimy, slimy cult-movie feel and a quirky sense of humor. It's graced with excellent acting, spectacular action scenes, and the trappings of clockpunk and Lovecraftian horror -- not to mention that it stars a six-foot-tall scarlet demon with a soft spot for kittens. In 1944, young Professor Broom accompanied an army regiment to a remote Scottish island, where the Nazis -- led by Rasputin -- were about to open a portal to another world, and allow the vast tentacled Ogru Jahad (Seven Gods of Chaos) to enter our world. Rasputin and the Nazis were destroyed, but something came through the portal -- a baby demon, whom Broom names Hellboy. Fast-forward sixty years -- a grown Hellboy (Ron Perlman) and his fishy friend Abe (Doug Jones) are working at a paranormal government agency that specializes in policing the supernatural, with the weirded-out Agent Myers (Rupert Evans) just joining the team. Soon afterwards, Hellboy is called on to kill Sammael the Hellhound -- but it turns out that Sammael can replicate himself indefinitely. As Hellboy and his team try to hunt down the remaining Sammaels, the dying Professor Broom (John Hurt) finds that a revived Rasputin and his immortal Nazi followers have orchestrated all this. And Rasputin is continuing to pull the strings behind the scenes -- including using Hellboy's love Liz (Selma Blair), a depressed pyrokinetic. And when Hellboy suffers a devastating loss, his journey will take him right back to his roots -- and the potential destruction of the world. Watching "Hellboy," it's easy to see how Guillermo Del Toro because world-famous for the exquisitely dark "Pan's Labyrinth," and why he's been chosen to direct the forthcoming "Hobbit" movies. This adaptation could have just been another paint-by-numbers comic-book story, but Del Toro gives it the kind of grime, quirk, ains and heart that a lasting cult movie should have. Part of that cult appeal is "Hellboy's" distinctive look, with Lovecraftian tentacle-gods and some steampunky details. And the action scenes are pretty spectacular -- trains, slimy hellhounds, sword-swinging Nazis with chopped-up faces, giant clock cogs, and a fiery explosion in a mental asylum. And there are some truly spectacular action scenes in a vast underground labyrinth, full of ancient hammers and collapsing idges. There's just enough action and grossness, without going overboard. But Del Toro is able to balance out the action with some truly touching moments, such as the aged Broom's final scenes in his firelit study. And there's a lot of dark humor here as well -- and not all of it is Hellboy's dry one-liners. The movie is liberally peppered with dark humor moments ("1945, you mean. Hitler died in '45." "DID he now?"), including some hilariously maca e scenes involving a bad-tempered Russian zombie ("This is Ivan Klimatovich. Say hi, Ivan." "Go that way, Red Monkey!"). Most importantly, Del Toro is able to give his characters little human quirks -- hair plugs, love of cats, and Hellboy sanding down his horns in the morning. Perlman is simply amazing as "Red," whose gruff scarlet exterior hides a kindly, affectionate heart. Not many actors could emote through that many prosthetics (including a very lifelike tail), but Perlman makes it look natural. Though he's playing a ninetyish old professor, Hurt plays his role with a quiet, powerful sense of goodness. Jones and Evans also do excellent jobs, one as an erudite psychic fish-man ("We lead a charmed life," he observes as cockroaches skitter around him) and an earnest young agent. Selma Blair is the one downside -- she sort of mumbles in a monotone most of the time. "Hellboy" is one of the best comic-book adaptations that Hollywood has turned out, primarily because of the darker, eerier aesthetic Guillermo Del Toro ings to it. Definitely a must-see.
First things first, let me say "Welcome to the material plane oh Great Red One!" The '04 cinematic release of `Hellboy' definitely ought new meaning and dimension (dimension, get it?) to the superhero film genre and the never ending battle between Good and Evil. The storyline contains all the elements the astute comic book fan or student of the esoteric and arcane would expect; nightmarish locations and stormy nights, magical incantations and prophetic utterances of impending doom, animated corpses and demonic entities, portals to the Otherworld and of course plenty of Nazis. Add to the mix the mad monk Rasputin, the awakening ot the Lovecraftian "Seven Gods of Chaos" and you've got a Cosmic confrontation on your hands that only the likes of Hellboy can withstand. This movie has it all, well developed storyline, superb special effects with an entertaining mixture of action sequences and witty, intelligent dialogue delivering a lot of quotable dialogue. Ron Perlman is absolutely perfect as Hellboy and under the magnificent direction of Guillermo del Toro it was truly a match made in Heaven (sorry, couldn't resist)!
News flash! The Nazis tried to open up hell! And that's just for starters! What determines a man? That is the question posed at the beginning and the ending of this fun flick steeped in horror and sci-fi and poured out as a quaffable entertainment. I was pleasantly surprised. Ron Perlman glows as Hellboy, aptly named as the only thing to survive the explosion to close the gate to Hell. Those closing it are American agents from the Bureau of the Paranormal situated in the States. After defeating the Nazis in the opening scene, they manage to capture little Hell baby who is so cute with his red skin and huge right clay hand and horn knobs on his forehead. Th agents from the Bureau of the Paranormal take him home. After all, he is, well, paranormal. Hellboy grows up with two companions: Abe Sapiens, sort of amphibious man, and Elizabeth, a firestarter. The professor teaches each how to control and utilize their special skills. The viewer learns this during the rolling of the story. We next meet Hellboy as an adult--and here I was expecting fearful scenes, but Hellboy loves cats. That settled it for this viewer. Cats everywhere in his cozy apartment. The professor has trained Hellboy to eliminate monsters. But that is how he is trained. The question again: What manner of man is he? The question is answered in the last action scene. John, the agent assigned as his special assistant makes the case that a man is determined by his choices, what decisions he makes. Man is not destined to be one thing or another. There has always been choice. The fact that the choice is played out in battle with a multitude of hell creatures and a hell monster makes the decision even more memorable. This is a highly recommended film! It is campy, creepy, and with context and comraderie. It't quite different from what you might expect! From visionary writer/director Guillermo del Toro (director of Blade II The Devil's Backbone) comes Hellboy a supernatural action adventure based on Mike Mignola's popular Dark Horse Comics series of the same name. Born in the flames of hell and ought to Earth as an infant to perpetrate evil Hellboy (Ron Perlman) was rescued from sinister forces by the benevolent Dr. Broom (John Hurt) who raised him to be a hero. In Dr. Broom's secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense Hellboy creates an unlikely family consisting of the telepathic "Mer-Man" Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) the woman he loves who can control fire. Hidden from the very society that they protect they stand as the key line of defense against an evil madman who seeks to reclaim Hellboy to the dark side and use his powers to destroy mankind.System Requirements:Running Time: 121 Min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE Rating: PG-13 UPC: 043396013179 Manufacturer No: 01317In the ongoing deluge of comic-book adaptations, IHellboyI ranks well above average. Having turned down an offer to helm IHarry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanI in favor of inging IHellboyI's origin story to the big screen, the gifted Mexican director Guillermo del Toro compensates for the excesses of IBlade III with a moodily effective, consistently entertaining action-packed fantasy, beginning in 1944 when the mad monk Rasputin--in cahoots with occult-buff Hitler and his Nazi thugs--opens a transdimensional portal through which a baby demon emerges, capable of destroying the world with his powers. Instead, the aptly named Hellboy is raised by the benevolent Prof. Bloom, founder of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, whose allied forces enlist the adult Hellboy (Ron Perlman, perfectly cast) to battle evil at every turn. While nursing a melancholy love for the comely firestarter Liz (Selma Blair), Hellboy files his demonic horns ("to fit in," says Bloom) and wreaks havoc on the bad guys. The action is occasionally routine (the movie suffers when compared to the similar IX-MenI blockbusters), but del Toro and Perlman have honored Mike Mignola's original Dark Horse comics with a lavish and loyal interpretation, retaining the amusing and sympathetic quirks of character that made the comic-book Hellboy a pop-culture original. 【Very Interesting!】

【Vantage Point】

【Initially Thrilling But Ultimately Ludicrous Melding of "Rashomon" and "24"】

【A Great New Concept】

【Great Movie that Makes You Think】

As you probably already know from other reviews, this movie takes place in a relatively short period of time. That time period is seen over and over again but from a different perspective. I thought it was very interesting to see how it all tied together. What a fantastic premise for a movie. I don't think that it has ever been done before - and in my opinion, it works! You do have to pay attention to fully appreciate how all the simultaneous story lines tie together but it is worth it. I found it quite entertaining and thought provoking.
Unlike "Cloverfield", all the amateur and professional camera movement was done to show different angles and present various points of view until all the pieces are there and you have worked out the puzzle. In this case it shows an attempt to assassinate the president and kill anyone that was at a summit to hear him speak. We follow two key people in this story, Dennis Quaid and Forest Whitaker. Quaid, is secret service guarding the president, while Whitaker is a tourist on vacation filming the summit. What transpires before the president is shot is as though several cameras filmed the action and then they are all rewound and watched one-by-one with them starting at 12:00. At first this is not an issue but by the fifth or sixth segment you may be ready to fast forward the movie, don't or you will miss some key dialogue. Although as I said it may test your patience a little towards the end, the pay-off is worth it. Overall a good action thriller with a good acting, decent story, and good camera work and effects. Good quality DVD with decent replayability. If you enjoyed this be sure to catch "The Sentinel" and "In the Line of Fire".
There is no argument that first-time feature director Pete Travis maneuvers this 2008 action thriller with propulsive intensity throughout its surprisingly fleet ninety-minute running time, but contrivance and coincidence seem to be the two guiding forces behind the overly tricked-out screenplay by first-time screenwriter Barry L. Levy. The concept starts promisingly as it aspires to be a contemporary take on Rashomon, Akira Kurosawa's classic melodrama about the subjectivity of truth and the uncertainty of factual accuracy. Under the guise of a political thriller, however, the film only replicates one part of Kurosawa's cinematic equation - showing the multiple perspectives of the participants to a traumatic event - without really addressing the complexity behind the individual perceptions. The basis of the differences in perspective lies wholly within the facts to which each participant is exposed. Consequently, Travis and Levy use the recycling gimmick to peel away components of the central assassination plot until we are left with a straight-ahead finale that is as ludicrous as it is chaotic. As just seen in Jieho Lee's even more preposterous The Air I Breathe, Paul Haggis' Crash has inspired yet another overly connected storyline that sacrifices any sense of realism for 24-style cliffhanger plot devices. This time, the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca, Spain is the setting for an anti-terrorism summit among 150 world leaders at which U.S. President Henry Ashton is about to speak onstage. He is shot twice after which there is an explosion some distance away from the square, and then a few minutes later, a bomb explodes under the stage causing several casualties. This all occurs over a twenty-three-minute period, and it is first seen most effectively through the eyes of a CNN-type news crew led by veteran news producer Rex Brooks. Their viewpoint ends when their onsite reporter is killed in the bombing. The movie is strong in a pulpy way up to this point, but then we see the same series of events six times over. The second perspective shows Secret Service agents Thomas Barnes and Kent Taylor on active duty. Just back after recovering from a nervous eakdown ought on by another presidential assassination attempt a year earlier, Barnes is especially anxiety-driven during the events that unfold. The third viewpoint is that of a Spanish police officer named Enrique who may or may not have a connection to the terrorists involved. By the time we see the same events a fourth time, the novelty has genuinely worn off as we see everything again from American tourist Howard Lewis' perspective and then once again from the President himself. These particular episodes spin into an incredulous series of circumstances that lead to the final viewpoint represented by the terrorists themselves. The plot finally moves forward in time once we are privy to what all the participants experience. Performances prove to be secondary in a labyrinth thriller like this, although Dennis Quaid registers the most as the tortured and heroically persistent Barnes, and William Hurt shows true executive élan in the surprisingly meaty role of Ashton. Forest Whitaker valiantly attempts to make the most of a no-win role as Lewis as his character becomes more far-fetched. A similar problem befalls Matthew Fox as Taylor, but Sigourney Weaver has no problem acting authoritative in a near-cameo as Brooks during the best ten minutes of the movie. An international supporting cast fills the remaining key roles expertly - Spain's Eduardo Noriega, Venezuela's Édgar Ramirez, France's Saïd Taghmaoui (Amir's driver in The Kite Runner), and Israel's Ayelet Zurer (Avner's wife in Munich). Interestingly, while the plot could have been fodder for an anti-Bush political diatribe, the film holds back from such easy targets. The downside, however, is a murkiness in character motivation that is never really clarified beyond the basic good-versus-bad dynamics. Features on the 2008 DVD are pretty standard with Travis going solo on the film's commentary track. While he provides insight, interactive dialogue with Levy or some of the principal cast could have held more interest. The making-of featurette, "An Inside Perspective" runs nearly a half-hour and provides the standard back-slapping from cast and crew as well as behind-the-scenes footage. The sixteen-minute "Plotting an Assassination" seems repetitive even with the focus purely on the script and the characters. The seven-minute "Coordinating Chaos" focuses on the elaborate stunts, especially the Bullitt-style car chase that was filmed in Mexico City doubling for Salamanca. A one-minute gag take (not that funny) and several trailers complete the extras.
The "hook" of Vantage Point is that when the President of the United States is shot in a crowded town square, many people witness the event. This film explores those multiple "vantage points", adding a new layer to the plot with each story. The film really works on two different levels: First, it contains enough twists and turns to really engage the mind into generating theories as to what is actually happening. Seemingly with every vantage point seen, the one before it is called into question. Thus, this leads to many "whoa" moments. Second, the acting is terrific. Matthew Fox, Dennis Quaid, William Hurt, and Forrest Whitaker (among others) all fit into their roles with ease, and each story is compelling enough to make you actually care about what will happen to each person. Plus, without trying to give too much away, the film also messes with audience's perceptions of actors from previous roles (cryptic, yes, but you'll get it once you watch). The only reason I do not give this film 5 stars is that the ending degenerates into nothing more than a Jason Bourne-style car chase scene, nothing like the provocative storytelling mode throughout most of the film. Overall, this is a great concept-film that showcases an entirely new type of storytelling. If you are a fan of action movies and love your "no way!" moments, you will enjoy this film immensely.
This movie was terrific. The effects were amazing, and the story seems believable enough. It discusses many different facets of public perception and sheds light onto why there doesn't seem to be only one simple, straightforward answer to the question, "What happened." Topics such as censorship, national security, terrorism - they're all covered and passive jabs are taken at each in its own way. The movie illuminates some of the major problems with not only the United States but also the world's handling of diplomacy, information transfer, terrorism, and law enforcement. This movie is a must see for anyone who is concerned about the present state of world affairs, but at the same time someone who just wants a good evening of entertainment can also enjoy it.During an historic counter-terrorism summit in Spain the President of the United States is struck down by an assassin's bullet. Eight strangers have a perfect view of the kill but what did they really see? As the minutes leading up to the fatal shot are replayed through the eyes of each eyewitness the reality of the assassination takes shape. But just when you think you know the answer the shattering final truth is revealed. VANTAGE POINT is a mindbending political action-thriller starring Dennis Quaid Matthew Fox Academy Award® Winner Forest Whitaker (Best Actor 2006 The Last King of Scotland) with Sigourney Weaver and Academy Award® winner William Hurt (Best Actor 1985 Kiss of the Spider Woman).System Requirements:Running Time: 90 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/THRILLERS Rating: PG-13 UPC: 043396216167 Manufacturer No: 21616iVantage Pointi, which aspires to be a cunningly twisted thriller, comes equipped with plenty of hurtling action, handheld camerawork, what-was-that? editing, and a plot that has multiple, contradictory agendas writhing like a nest of snakes. It's all set a-boil within a few blocks of a town square in Spain where a U.S. President is targeted for assassination. Although the movie lasts 90 minutes, the events it depicts are mostly over with in a quarter-hour or so--but seen, rewound, and reseen from half a dozen different (you guessed it) vantage points. The first line in the credits reads "Original Film," apparently the name of the production company. "Gimmick Movie" would be more accurate; the opening reel, effectively jolting, affords an initial overview of the events through the eyes, lenses, monitors, and dueling sensibilities of a TV news producer (Sigourney Weaver), her activist-minded reporter (Zoe Saldana) and crew. Everybody’s in Salamanca (actually, Mexico City) for the start of an international conference to reaffirm Arab-Western commitment to the fight against terrorism. Terrorism, of course, sees this as an ideal moment to eak out. As gunshots and explosions reduce everything to chaos, the clock is reset to zero and we proceed to revisit the scene as experienced by several Secret Service agents (namely Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox), an American tourist with camcorder (Forest Whitaker), sundry locals--including three who may be caught up in a love triangle or a conspiracy or both--and even the President himself (William Hurt). For a while, this is mildly diverting: that guy, or that gesture, so sinister when glimpsed across the plaza in one run-through, now appears harmless in close-up--or vice versa. But there's no real ambiguity (so stop with the careless comparisons to Kurosawa's iRashomoni--this is a shell game in which the peas aren't worth tracking. Despite decent actors, the characters might as well be holograms (although poor Forest Whitaker is saddled with "motivation" of surpassing sappiness), and the casting telegraphs several twists: one redoubtable good guy practically gives a wink-wink, nudge-nudge that he's really bad, etc. The movie declines to specify which nutjob philosophy the terrorists espouse, and their numbers are multi-ethnic. There's also a laborious suggestion that they have bloodthirsty, reactionary counterparts among the President's inner circle, which perhaps qualifies as redeeming socio-political comment and prompts a meaningless declaration of deep meaning from the Prez. The whole megilleh finally comes down to an extended car chase through impassably claustrophobic streets that would mark a lurch into unintentional self-parody--if only that point hadn't been passed a couple of rewinds earlier. i--Richard T. 【lame lame】

【Spiderwick Crackles With Excitement!】

【Shouldn't have opened the book.】

【much better than I expected!】

【Not My Favorite】

this movie sucks its lame and for losers it doesn't follow the book and it skips some of the cool stuff in the book this is so lame and its for losers
The Spiderwick Chronicles movie attempts to pack the plot, characters, and action of all five fast-paced books into a mere 101 minutes. As a result, many of the most suspense-filled scenes in the books had to be sacrificed, and the final battle between good and evil is moved from the goblin's lair to the house. The house ownie, goblins, hobgoblins and other mythic beings are well done, both artistically and in tune with the author's images and characterization. Children and young adults who have never read the books will likely be clamoring for the complete set for their fuller enjoyment of the magical world of Spiderwick.
From what I got from others here, the book was better, and I'd have to hope so because I didn't much like the movie. This is nothing but a trademark kids-fairytale. Same premise, and stereotypical cast (the main little boy totally looks like "Sebastian" from Neverending Story- whatayaknow, he opens a book and things get wierd); Is it just me, or aren't those little green creatures (boggarts) from a vintage RAID or antihistamine commercial? And wasn't the " ownie" in Charlotte's Web? It's impossible not to compare this movie- I don't know, it just seemed to me like nothing was quite original, even the special effects. The pace of the film didn't help either. If you have 3 televisions and 3 DVD players nearby, simultaneously put the Neverending Story, Lord of the Rings (any of them), and Charlotte's Web on, all in fastforward, and you would have experienced this film.
While I write this review keep in mind I have never read the books, though I probably will sometime soon because of this movie. Pros: Characters: I liked the characters of this movie, all were interesting enough to also keep the movie interesting. I especially liked the same kid playing simon and jared (Freddie Highmore) and how different he made those characters. Great job Freddie! Though they weren't the most unique characters, they were good enough for me. Story: Wow! This was a great story! I never expected it to be at all. Fun, fast paced, incredibly creative and clever, susupensful, and somewhat funny. It was also fairly complex, and thats what I love about stories. Graphics were fantastic as well. Cons: Sometimes characters were annoying, like Jared constantly inging the book everywhere with him when he knew that was a bad idea. Another thing was there was a lot of yelling. But right when it got annoying they stop doing it, so I'm fine with that. Those are the only bad things. It had a great story, a great ending, great cast, interesting characters mostly, and good graphics. Great family movie!
It was alright, but I think the movie itself could've been better. It went way too fast in the events, I would've liked it better if had been more like the books, but even then, I've seen better fairy tales. All of you can like it if you want, I'm not stoping you, but I prefer other movies. From the beloved best-selling series of books comes an extraordinary fantasy adventure revealing the unseen world that exists all around us. From the moment the Grace family moves into a secluded old house peculiar things start to happen. Unable to explain the accidents and strange disappearances the Grace children Jared Simon and Mallory start to investigate and find the unbelievable truth of the Spiderwick Estate and the amazing creatures that inhabit it.System Requirements:Running Time: 101 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: PG UPC: 097363432845 Manufacturer No: 343284A very good adaptation of the popular series of books by Tony DiTerllizi and Holly Black, IThe Spiderwick ChroniclesI is one of the few family films in recent years to seamlessly integrate magical elements with a potent drama that will strike a chord with many kids. An exceptionally talented Freddie Highmore IAugust RushI plays twin others Jared and Simon Grace, caught up in a sad shock from their parents' divorce and coping with a decision by their mother (Mary-Louise Parker) to uproot the boys and their sister, Mallory (Sarah Bolger), from New York City to a small town. There, the oken family moves into a spooky old mansion passed on to them by the kids' great-aunt, Lucinda (Joan Plowright), who is spending her twilight years in managed care and whose scientist father, Arthur Spiderwick (David Strathairn), disappeared some 80 years ago. Jared, angry, defiant, and determined to live with the father who seems to have abandoned him, investigates strange happenings and discovers Arthur's secret notations on fairies, ogres, and other mythical creatures that live both in and outside the house. Having no idea where his curiosity is leading, Jared soon finds that he and his family are under siege from goblins and a powerful ogre (Nick Nolte) who wants Arthur's notebook. Suddenly, the boy who is a lightning rod for a troubled family becomes a resourceful warrior intent on saving his loved ones from powerful forces. IThe Spiderwick ChroniclesI benefits enormously from a script (partially written by John Sayles) that treats, quite seriously, the emotional pain of its human characters and makes Jared's will to survive the very real engine of an otherwise fantastic story. It helps, too, that director Mark Waters, who ings a warm and knowing touch to outlandish material IFreaky FridayI, has a way of making the spectacular elements of IThe Spiderwick ChroniclesI genuine enough to stir real excitement and suspense. This is one of the better film adaptations of best-selling fiction for kids in some years. I--Tom KeoghI
